Floating and Sinking

This week, we have been learning all about floating and sinking.

On Tuesday, we did an experiment with a box of water and lots of different materials. We predicted which materials would float and which would sink. Lots of them surprised us!

We then designed our own Tempest boat, based on our knowledge of what material would float and sink. Today, we made our boats!

It was very exciting and very messy! We really enjoyed using the masking tape to stick materials together and exploring the different materials we had in the classroom.

You were very independent and worked brilliantly in your teams! You also cleaned up your mess very quickly – amazing!

We haven’t tested our boats yet, but can you predict whether your boat will float or sink? Why?

  1. Sam says it might float or it might sink, because I had a big milk bottle but it had its lid on but I would like it to float.

  2. I think it might float because it has a booster bottle, cardboard and plastic. Me and Mark made our boat out of plastic, cardboard, paper and card. I hope you like our boat and I am looking forward to testing it out. Alyssa Mae Clarke ???⛵?️
