What a fantastic afternoon we had in Year 1!
We had the whole afternoon to explore the devices which we kindly borrowed from Year 4 and Year 6.
After a brilliant session a few weeks ago, I thought it would be a nice idea for everyone to spend time on the devices together, developing our computing and coding skills. We were lucky enough to have a Year 6 helper too – we couldn’t have done it without him!
The afternoon started off on the website https://studio.code.org/ on Course 1, working through our skills dragging and dropping and creating jigsaws. You were so good at this that you quickly moved onto sequencing, creating an algorithm to move the angry bird towards the pig!
Then, we moved onto Kodable, within Hour of Code https://www.kodable.com/hour-of-code
This is a brilliant website that introduces the programming basics, similar to using a Beebot, but moving the character around on a device using the correct directions.
Here are some pictures of us hard at work. You really had to use your patience and waiting skills today when we were setting up the devices – you were very mature about it all, well done!
I am extremely proud of how quickly you picked up the skills to use devices and worked hard to help each other out too, you continue to impress me Year 1!
Can you have a go at home on the websites above and teach someone your new skills? (Top tip for mums and dads, turn the sound down on Kodable – you’ll soon see why!)
You are super cool coders and computing superstars!
Well done Matilda Class 🙂
