We have had a busy few weeks in Matilda class and I can’t believe we have nearly finished a whole half term in Year 1!
I am so impressed with how well you have settled into the routines, expectations and structure of Year 1, you have all been so mature and have got on with everything really well.
We have been very busy in the last few weeks. Here are some things we have been up to!
English: We have started looking at traditional tales, firstly with Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The children loved acting out the story and taking on the characters. We wrote some fantastic character descriptions of Goldilocks with some impressive vocabulary!
Maths: We have continued to develop our number sense, learning different ways to make different numbers in different representations. Last week, we got messy with paint and Numicon and began to make number bonds to 10. Keep practicing your number recognition to 100 – you are really good at it already! I’ve enjoyed seeing you progress already with your number sense.
Theme: We practiced using powder paint to mix colours carefully in preparation for our final art piece. I have noticed we have some budding artists and some children who love to wash up! We have ordered events in History and asked Mrs Fennelly some thoughtful questions about Simon de Senlis in the last 5 years. In Science, we have been learning about senses and use our sense of smell to work out what a variety of cups had in them. We could smell lemon juice, coffee, vinegar and toothpaste using our background knowledge.
PE: We’ve loved being outside in PE, exploring how our bodies move and introducing ball skills too.
Phonics: Your phonic knowledge and reading is amazing and I am so impressed with how well you’ve taken on the challenge of our first Phonics practice. You all read 40 real and pseudo words with confidence!
Well done Matilda class!
